Monday made-it (early) & two freebies

I am sharing my Monday Made-It a day early because I am swamped tomorrow. I have two made its and two freebies today!
My first made it I stole borrowed from another blogger and I can not remember who! SO if you know please let me know so I can give proper credit! It is a quick assessment system AND a peer tutoring opportunity combined. (I just love double duty things)
Each student has a set of paint chip cards in red, yellow, and green.
Each color is associated with a range of understanding which is tied to an anchor chart in the room.

When you finish up a lesson, you have the students hold up the card for how they feel about the content (I got this, I think so, No Way!). This gives you a quick assessment on how well they got the content. Then you can have the yellows pair up with the greens, while you can pull the reds together for another lesson! SO peer tutoring rolled in with quick assessment! LOVE IT!

The second made it I stole borrowed from Susan over at 3rd Grade Grapevine. Her original post on these student binders can be found here. I just followed her step by step instructions to make my prototype STUDENT BINDER!

Now for the two FREEBIES!
First I wanted to do an inferencing POP quiz with my students as they entered the room on the first day. So, I created a How well do you know the teacher pop quiz. I plan to have it on their desk as they come in with a clip board. They can use anything in the room (including each other) to find the answers. Once everyone has arrived, we will discuss thier answers and reasoning behind them. I even plan to NOT tell them the correct answers, because I want them to focus on thier thinking!

The second freebie is one of the word work options for Daily 5. It is a tic tac toe spelling center. Directions are on the top!

I hope you enjoy my made it and my freebies! Please leave a comment if you like them!

Clip Chart 2.0

Love, Love, Love my Monday Made It! This idea came from one of my favorite blogs 3rd Grade Thoughts. You can find a link to it here. I love her idea, but had to find a way to tie it into my movie theater theme. So this is what I came up with. I used actor "parts" as my Super Improver Levels.
The way that Stephanie explains it is as students make good choices, they get to "clip up." When they reach the top (star student) they get a sticker added to thier clip. After 5 stickers, they change color clips to match the "Super Improver Level" colors. It tracks behavior over the year! And the best part is that the change of color clip is its own reward! So no more reward box! Love it! Thanks Stephanie!

about me

Figured I could take a few minutes to let you all know about me. I have been teaching for 5 years, all in kindergarten. I have taught at two different elementary schools in KCK. I have been married to a wonderfully patient, and sometimes irritating, man. I have two grown children and, get this, 3 grandkids!
Next school year holds lots of chaos, fun, excitement, in store as I am changing schools and grades! I will be teaching 3rd grade for the first time and I am a little nervous and excited. I will be leaning on my fellow bloggers, pinteresters, and colleagues to help get me through the first few weeks of school.
I will try to keep up with my blog as I start my year. Wish me luck!

CRICUT

I have to say that I love my cricut machine. At first, I didn't use it much, but now I have figured out how to hook it up to my computer and cut right from my computer! This is perfect since I just got my new organizer for behind my desk. I am now making labels for the bins for all the things I will keep in it. Oh, I also got the stuff to make a time out timer for my classroom. I will be making it tonight and working on the labels for my bins throughout the weekend. I will post pics tomorrow!

Chair Pockets

Spent the day shopping for the material for my new chair pockets! I am having them made to be color coded like my room. So, I will have 5 each of red, blue, yellow, green, orange, and purple. My room is going to be so colorful and easy to manage! I can just call whatever color table to join or move. I am trying to do one thing each day to get ready for next year. As soon as my chair pockets are ready, I will post pictures!

Sight Word Sticker Book

One of the things I have been working on. The last two years I have had a huge poster up in my room that I used to track my students as they learned their popcorn words (sight words). It became hard to keep up with. And I also tried to come up with a way for students to have access to their popcorn words during writing time to help with spelling. I have now come up with a way to combine these two things into one. Voila, the individual student sight word sticker book. I will give out one page a week with the new sight words for that week. Throughout the week, I will have individual students come over and read the sight words to me. If they know the words they get a sticker next to it. If not, we can try that word again next week along with the new words for that week. I am laminating them and putting them on a ring, so the students can keep them in a bucket on their table and pull them out when they need them for spelling. I can't wait to see how they work out!  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1dtawASU4SsFEoizlZ98kqk1y4FLG6SQjhYXU0A8vHCg/edit
